I write this blog. It does not represent anyone else's opinions or perspectives. Regardless of employers or clients or any other associations, this is my blog and it does not speak for anyone else. I have learned that perception is more powerful than reality. So, we get to experience the joys of claiming and disclaiming. Isn't that super!

back at it, but havin’ a hard time feelin’ it

So, this past weekend’s trip to where I grew up in Minnesota was a great bit of fun.  My youngest sister got married.  I got to spend time with family and friends.  And, I even got to work a bunch too.  It helps that every Starbucks and Caribou coffee shop is another office, just waiting for me to get online!

But, now I’m back in the office, in Seattle.  I had a full day here yesterday, and now again today.  Actually I got in a little early today.  I’ve had a few meetings, and I’m progressing through tasks and managing ok… but just ok.  I’m back at it, but havin’ a hard time feelin’ it.

I’m having a hard time getting my mind to go back to work.  I’ve already taken a little break to walk down to the water and get some fresh air.  I just had a 30 minute lunch break.  And, I also took a few minute to chat with a coworker about my trip.  So, why is the groove, the vibe, the mojo… just not flowin’ like it usually is?

It’s because I really enjoy my friends and family, and I also really enjoy my job.  With my new job (been here about 3 months now) I have done a really good job of separating my personal and work lives.  I’ve also kept a good balance of each.  This past weekend (actually 7 days with a weekend in the middle) was a working vacation.  That means I never really turned work off.  And, I never really turned friends and family off either.  So, it’s like I’ve been going at it right through the weekend, and then continued on into this week, without a ‘normal’ breather.

I don’t think I clearly knew what it was until about 3 paragraphs into this post.  Now it’s very clear to me.  I need to have focus on either personal, or work… but not both.  Both is too exhausting.  I’m cool with each, and each are good things.  But, they also both have their place, which apparently for me, is not good to have them occupying the same mental space.
