This morning I’m spending time alone, sitting by the water, relaxing. I already went for a little bit of a drive. Yesterday I spent a bit of time cleaning and mentally refreshing.
What am I talking about? I’m talking about when you feel like you just woke up from a nap on the weekend, in the middle of the afternoon. Sometimes it just doesn’t feel right. Our bodies want to have it be morning when we wake up. (Yes, all you night people, I’m right on this. Our bodies naturally want to be awake during the day and to sleep at night. You can do some medical research and you’ll find the same thing.)
It’s not like I’m staying up late at all. But, that feeling about waking up in the middle of the afternoon and being in a sort of funk – that feeling has just been hanging around for a few days. I don’t like it. I’d rather be tired or be awake and energized. It reminds me of playing basketball with an injury. If you play with 70% effort or 80% effort, you end up getting even more injured.
So, I’m trying to stay refreshed and to get energized….
…and I’m watching a beaver slowly troll on by. It’s got a little stick in it’s mouth and appears totally oblivious to my presence. A few minutes ago a flock (not sure if that’s the right term) of loons or some sort of small ducks all flutter by. They were just trying to group together and didn’t really get out of the water. They just skimmed across the top, to try to catch up with everyone else. There was at least 30 of them and they were about 30 feet from me. The beaver was the same, it was about 20 feet from me.
I’m actually sitting on a park bench, along the water near downtown Kirkland. It’s not like I’m out in the middle of the woods. Oh, and I’ve also got the Cleveland Cavs and Washington Wizards NBA playoff basketball game going with my SlingBox, streaming from home via my mobile phone and tethered to my laptop via Bluetooth.
It’s halftime. Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Kenny Smith, and the rest of the TNT halftime crew are all chummin’ it up and sharing their opinions.
This is my kind of fun and relaxing. It might sound really techy or geeky. It’s not. It’s very simple and very quick. I just open up the laptop and click, start, connect to, Cingular 3125 and then I’m online. The rest is all just like normal. Well normal for me… and what should be normal for anyone with a mobile computing device. We’ll get there, but for now, well more than 99% of everyone is too impatient and doesn’t care enough to spent the time doing any initial setup.
I say it’s not geeky, because to me, the geeky part is the setup and the initial figuring it all out. Now, I’m just a user. And for me, it’s just as simple as everyone else who buys an iPod and plugs it in and it ‘just works’ for them. Now, this ‘just works’ for me.
And, it’s working for me. I’m feeling refreshed and relaxed. Maybe I’ll head home now and watch the second half on a boring, regular, analog TV. Oh, hum drum…
