The content and basic info is the same, but the outward appearance of Tweblog got an update with a new theme offered by WordPress. I just love how they keep innovating and adding new features!
I really like a few things with this new theme.
- The Archives page is displayed in a clean way, with the latest 50 posts also linked, and categories are prominently at the top of that page now.
- The Contact page is updated to include an email form which allows email directly from the site. And, they were smart to integrate a spam/real person filter right with that form.
- Search is now directly part of the theme’s template in the upper right of each page, so I don’t need to include that widget in the sidebar.
- Feeds for posts and comments have prominent links as part of the theme’s template, also in the upper right.
- The About page now has the fun picture w/ me and my buddy, Kermit. That picture is also removed from the sidebar of every page. That’s not necessarily part of the new them, but I did make that change at the same time. My real life buddies usually give me grief about Kermit, but as soon as I move that picture around, somebody always comments, asking me to bring him back. Well, he’s still around, just more strategically placed now.
- Navigation for the whole site is prominently located right at the top.
- I think the main picture is a little bit more prominent, because of the other changes made with the new theme. Also, because of the color changes and other layout changes, I think some different types of pictures will look good. Stay tuned and check back often to see what I throw up there.
- The Author for each post is clearly noted at the top of each post. This isn’t such a big deal to date, but it allow more prominent GuestBlogger activity and helps set the stage for other ideas going forward.
- There are also some other cool things going on in the sidebar. I’m still testing some of them out and seeing what works best for the site. Have fun!
The coolest part about this facelift is that the theme design work comes free from WordPress! I simply selected the new theme and then tweaked it for my needs. So far, this theme meets most of my needs and is the closest to the way I would design it if I did all the work – but I didn’t have to do the work! Yay!
