Oh, boy. Maybe I stepped in over my head here…
I understand the arguments about how DRM is confusing and is not user friendly. I understand the arguments about how DRM is a technology hurdle. I understand why people want the simplicity of no DRM. I understand the various business benefits for companies that could make huge profits by having DRM, and also by not having DRM.
Calling DRM bad is like blaming the gun for the crime. That argument will NEVER be correct and is fundamentally flawed. If this is what you believe, then call it like it is and say that Microsoft is breaking the law and argue against Microsoft’s business decisions. I may agree or disagree, but I don’t believe in calling DRM bad, and I don’t believe in using that as a basis to not recommend the latest OS.
I think perception is reality, in many regards. My perception is that a bright, articulate person looks like a luddite when not recommending Vista, especially after all the R & D and open communication surrounding it’s launch and surrounding the direction technology is heading. And, when a person does not recommend Vista, in efforts to try to get things changed, I think they look change resistant, and not helpful. I just don’t think it works well that way.
But, it did get me thinking, and thinking critically at that! Like I said, maybe I stepped in over my head here. Maybe I’m learning to swim (in this arena) and this will help me understand the landscape more.
I’m listening!
