For a while now, I’ve been afraid to write an About page. I’ve been afraid because I thought it would peg me down to what I was or was not. Yes, it does do that. But, now it’s 2007 and I’m ok with that. I’m ok with people thinking whatever they want, and with disagreeing or agreeing. I’m ok with sharing my ideas. I encourage helping others out in whatever way possible. I’m not going to go share trade secrets. I am going to share philosophies and ways of thinking that I believe will make people better and will help facilitate overall business health.
I believe that in order to enjoy anything I do, and to flourish as a person, anything that I can do to make people around me be better and enjoy life more – that is valuable and positive and beneficial for everyone. I believe that the world can be a better place. I often think like an idealist and often am more visionary in my thinking than I am practical in how to get that done today. I love to strategize and think about making systems or products or brands better. I enjoy dissenting viewpoints when they can be shared with respect. And, I think I can change the world. I think we all can change the world.
Perception is reality, and if I can affect your perception in a good way, then the world has just become that much better.
- I am a Christian who believes that Jesus Christ is my savior. I believe in a relationship with Him, and not in a religion of rules with shoulds and should nots. Ask me about this if you want more intimate information. I am willing to talk about this.
- Actually, please do ask me about this if you’re planning on quoting it out of context and quoting it before trying to understand what it means, and what it means to me. Yeah, that’s happened recently…
- I am not my resume. However, that is needed to show others that I have done and can do things.
- Having said that, here is a “marketing summary” for me.
Toby Getsch is a technology enthusiast with 10 years of technical consulting expertise. He has experience with visionary leadership of partners and vendors and acumen to serve as a strategic link between technical and business management teams. He is skillful with business process innovation and project management. His passion is to leverage technology to innovate and make systems more efficient, and to make business processes optimize return on investment. Mr. Getsch is a creative, tech savvy individual who works well with little supervision and also thrives on being part of a team environment. He does an excellent job problem solving and managing the task at hand, while also seeing how that relates to the bigger picture and the vision and strategy going forward. - I am an athlete at heart, and a mid-30’s man trying to get and stay in shape. Too many people talk about it. I’m doing it.
- I enjoy healthy food. I like watching TV or movies that have good dialogue and are more ‘real’ in comparison to many science fiction sorts of entertainment. I really try to watch my language and to maintain a healthy perspective on everyone around me, even when I disagree with them.
- I enjoy listening.
- I like to talk.
- I want to write.
- I thrive on excellent leadership.
- I hope to become an excellent leader.
- I think management and leadership are different, and have unique purposes. I think we need more leaders and more leading by example.
- I do not believe in natural attrition when it comes to organizing a workplace. When appropriate, good leadership will fire people and tell them why they are fired.
- I believe that clearly communicated expectations makes for better followers and workers and a happier work environment. This also requires flexibility and changing expectations as needed – AND also communicating about those changes.
- I think feedback and open reviews make for better business. Conversely, the opposite bakes for baaaaaaad business.
- I don’t do drugs, and never have.
- I was previously married, and have now gone through a divorce.
- I do not have any children.
- Most of my family is from Minnesota.
- I currently live in Bellevue, Washington, very near to Seattle.
- I am a hopeless romantic.
- Change can happen.
- Change does happen.
- I want to be a major player in my own future, and I think I can be a leader that accepts responsibility, believes in consequences, and one who can make hard decisions – knowing that not everyone will like me or my decisions, nor will they necessarily agree.
- I blog.
- I take pictures.
- I read other blogs.
- This link to my blogroll is a little out of date because I’ve recently switched to using a different feed reader to follow blogs and podcasts, etc. The new feed reader does not publish my list of feeds in the same way. However, it does allow me to have shared items, or a link blog as it is sometimes called.
- I learn quickly, and can adapt. I am much more willing than many people to recognize my own weaknesses and deal with what I have to, in order to become a better man, person, friend, and leader…
