I’m reading more about this right now, and I have not yet had my coffee this morning. So, my opinion and perspective may change. However, at first read, you sound just like any other person in the long line of people complaining about “the successful company.” Since when does “play fair” equal “don’t be evil?” And, why do you, or anyone else for that matter, get to be the jury about what tools a company favors. Wouldn’t/Shouldn’t any company have a bent towards their own? Obviously, if another tool is better, any smart company is probably going to have people using the better tool anyway. But, their company line probably should lean towards promoting their own tools. Google is not a little non-profit company that just wants to help people. And what they are doing is far from being evil. I do believe that this is good discussion and needs to be had, to keep Google and any other company on the ball and aware that they are being watched.
sideNOTE: Dave, your comments setup sucks. It jumps between one site/service and another. It’s hard to know which item the comment refers to. It’s hard to know where the comment will show up. It’s hard to figure out where to send a trackback. Etc. I don’t like the daily grouping (versus grouping by individual posts) and find it hard to get involved in the conversation the way it’s setup.
