I write this blog. It does not represent anyone else's opinions or perspectives. Regardless of employers or clients or any other associations, this is my blog and it does not speak for anyone else. I have learned that perception is more powerful than reality. So, we get to experience the joys of claiming and disclaiming. Isn't that super!

Time is not the biggest argument.

Om Malik talks about content aggregation and social media.  I think his ideas about the large networks using aggregation as a revenue stream do make a lot of sense.  I think the direction Om’s post took at the end is wrong.

Time is not the biggest argument for hyper aggregation.  Laziness is the biggest argument.  Each service has things in it that make it unique and that make it a little better than the other ones, in some way.  Maybe it’s small for you, and maybe it’s huge for you.  But, there are unique things, features, service, popular brand, coolness, status, etc.

I think people are just lazy and live too much of their lives in a virtual reality.  Take a look around.  Are the choices we make getting us to where we want to be, or just making us happy for 5 seconds.  Duh!  Grow up people!  Think about more than your instant gratification for several months or years.  Yeah, I said several months or years.  Just stop the nonsense!  Get over yourself!  Grow up!

The biggest argument for making “social media” anything more is laziness.  It’s not time, money or anything else.  Because people want to be lazy, services to facilitate that will grow and will make money.  I’m not going to try for a piece of that pie.  I don’t agree with it.  It doesn’t make the world a better place and it doesn’t make me a better person.  I don’t think it does either of those for you either.

Bring it!
