    I write this blog. It does not represent anyone else's opinions or perspectives. Regardless of employers or clients or any other associations, this is my blog and it does not speak for anyone else. I have learned that perception is more powerful than reality. So, we get to experience the joys of claiming and disclaiming. Isn't that super!

Authoritarians Need Conformists

That comment needs context.  Read here to get it.

I think that the most common reasons for people to want rules are these:

  • fear of risk (and attendant fear of failure);
  • unwillingness to make unnecessary effort;
  • the belief (a correct one) that following rules saves time; and
  • the unwillingness to risk accepting personal responsibility for their actions.

Slow Leadership: Authoritarians Need Conformists

UPDATE:  I am a huge fan of everyone learning how to accept personal responsibility.  I’m also a huge fan of letting consequences do their own work, and having real consequences in terms of any discipline that may be needed.  Too often talk is useless.  Too often people are wimps, not leaders.  Leaders deal with consequences.  Wimps run their mouths.  (Now, I have to add the Rants tag too…)
