I write this blog. It does not represent anyone else's opinions or perspectives. Regardless of employers or clients or any other associations, this is my blog and it does not speak for anyone else. I have learned that perception is more powerful than reality. So, we get to experience the joys of claiming and disclaiming. Isn't that super!

Bloggers versus Mainstream Media

This topic of Bloggers v Mainstream Media is not new, yet the emotions surrounding it seam to continually simmer, and sometimes boil over.

This is a constant battle between perception and reality.

Mainstream media does a better job of reporting, and sometimes doing investigative reporting. Anderson Copper on CNN did an amazing job in The Congo this past week, and the write-ups from his team on his blog make my gut and heart both ache. That reporting takes skill, time, experience and money.

Blogging does a way better job of getting the news out. News. News = new stuff. That does not mean that they do the best job reporting about it.

Mainstream media and blogging are like two circles, with some area in the middle that intersects. Deal with it.

Change. Hmmm… I’ve written before that Change Resistance is a Cancer. The problem is not that bloggers are one thing and mainstream media is another. The problem is that they both defend their turf and don’t always cooperate while doing it.

It’s not going to go away, but the way anyone responds can always improve and continue to be more effective. That part is controllable. As always, a sphere of influence is really very small. A tiny circle of control is buried inside that sphere of influence, and it is always way smaller and way ego involved.

UPDATE: I want to additionally link here, for more perspective.
