I write this blog. It does not represent anyone else's opinions or perspectives. Regardless of employers or clients or any other associations, this is my blog and it does not speak for anyone else. I have learned that perception is more powerful than reality. So, we get to experience the joys of claiming and disclaiming. Isn't that super!

massive absorption – leadership

Today I feel like a giant sponge, soaking up all sorts of helpful tidbits of information.  Correction, I’m not supposed to “feel like.”  I’m supposed to just “feel” and then have an adjective.  So, I feel sponge worthy?!?!  Oh, no.  I didn’t.  I did.  (That’s from an old Seinfeld episode, that was quite hilarious I might add.)

I’ve been reading quite a bit lately.  Jeff Sandquist just posted The Five Temptations of a CEO.  That got me thinking of how I can better support the leaders that I work for or with.  I think there are some things that make people better leaders, definitely.  To personalize this, I think that being a leader is much different than being a respected leader.  A couple of the key differences is humility and integrity.  Guess which leaders are more respected?

How do you balance humility and integrity with intense passion and drive to help change happen.  Well, maybe one way is to slow down.  (A good blog on that topic is Slow Leadership.)  The world looks different when you slow down.

Since mid-April I have slowed down quite a bit.  I like seeing the world in HD and in color now.  It used to be in fast-forward and all black and white.  The transition from Technology Strategist and IT Consultant to the next thing has given me a much greater respect for leadership – especially to be able to recognize the kind of leader that I want to be, or the kind of leader that I want to support.

Do you think about your involvement in leadership, when you are not the obvious leader?

Do you think about your impact on leadership, when you are not the obvious leader?

I bet a good leader is thinking about you, when you are not the obvious leader.
