These are typical results when I’ve tested. The phone markets it’s EDGE speeds to be between 70 and 125. It depends on signal strength, and other obvious “cellular” stuff. The entire time I have full signal strength according to the phone’s signal bars.
Interesting to note that when viewing my Slingbox w/ this exact same connection right now, I get a steady stream of about 105 Kbps. From the SlingPlayer they use a big K with their Kbps. They’re wrong, and it should be a small k. The Integra thing uses DSLReports code behind the scenes. I’m sure they have some other overhead, and I’m not really on their network anyway. So, I’m thinking there may be some extra hops in there for that test.
When using a Speakeasy speedtest via: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Test 4: Download Speed: 109 kbps (13.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 30 kbps (3.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Speakeasy uses the correct, small k with their kbps.
Anyway… just some stuff I thought would be fun to blog about, since I’m a geek and like to do this stuff.
I’m not *that* big of a geek to keep doing this stuff now though. I was also watching the NCAA tourney and saw UNC lose and UCONN win. And, the weather right now is fabulous… Time for vroom, vroom… and a nice, Sunday ride on the 2004 Honda Shadow VT1100C. Oh yeah!
