Boom! – Get organized and stay organized. – Ouch! ALL of the businesses that I work with need LOTS of this. I’m excited to learn from this webcast. Tom (my boss) if you’re reading, this webcast would be a great one for our management team to see, and I think many (most) of the principles would benefit our company in huge ways.
The Sloan’s web site is http://www.StartUpNation.com.
Sounds like a lot of info coming from these guys.
- Mapping the future.
- You can’t get “there” if you don’t know where “there” is.
- Various legal stuff is critical.
- Use someone who knows your business.
- It’s up to you to think about insurance, and follow-up with the insurance agent – not the other way around.
- Intellectual Property loss is often connected with the soundness of IT.
Web site measurement. You must use web analytics to see what’s working and what’s not. There is brochure-ware and E-commerce. Brochures say, “Here I am.” E-commerces says, “I’m doing business here with this site.” Both are significant and have different roles and places with a small business.
Confidentiality and Non-competeclauses are very important. Often these are tied in to time. Being aware of communication flow and who has access or needs access is important to track.
When possible, use merchant banking – getting people to pay up front and on time is huge. Even with the small percentage that may come off the top when doing merchant banking, it’s still better in the long run because of the ease of use and because the money is more certain to come in.
Diversify. When using a large company as a client, it can dramatically impact your business. There need to be out clauses, and you are running your own business. You need to mitigate the conversation and risks. The demands will come. It’s how you manage them that helps relieve stress and retain balance in the organization.
Once a month, very specific goals are reviewed by every single person in the company. This allows everyone to know right where they are, and where help is needed. It eases stress to get all moving along with the plan. Reviewing and revising the business plan often is very beneficial in this way. Maybe every 6 months is a good time to review the business plan.
A life plan should be out in front of a business plan. Perspective is huge. This all brings back to the very first item in these notes. “Boom! – Get organized and stay organized.”
I’m adding the officelive tag to this one because I think Office Live can help with a lot of this stuff mentioned above.
